Relatively Speaking

Throughout the years, I have had my fair share of success in the dog show ring.  However, a large part of a breeder's success is truly measured by the happiness that is brought to the people owning the pets.  These pages are dedicated to these successes and is my way of saying,  "Thank you for opening your home and your heart to one of my dogs."  Several owners of the puppies/dogs I have placed over the years, have submitted little anecdotes of their life with them.  Others just have photos to share.  I have enjoyed both stories and photos very much and believe you will too.

Sincerely,
     Joyce B. Winkels

"Igor"

"Hope you are doing well.  I have been meaning to write you for some time now but, life has become a whole lot fuller since "Igor" came into my life.  First off.. He has a super clean bill of health. We changed vets and are glad we did. This one is very informative and smart. Thanks for helping me out with all of that. :)

"Igor" has been busy making friends and is by far the most popular dog in the park!  Everyone is constantly telling him what a beautiful boy he is and how much they love his markings.  He even has a little crush on the rather voluptuous Lhasa Apso down the street and shares all of his toys with her including his favorite plush toy!  I am constantly amazed at how smart, loving and joyful he is.  He loves going for car-rides, play dates, and curling up with me at night.  He literally makes me smile or laugh every single day! I am sending you some pictures of him "on vacation" and another with his favorite toy. I just love his expressions!! Anyway, hope you and your family are doing well.  Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know I am thinking of you!"  - Submitted by owner, Ilivia

"Bo"

"Bo" is doing very well and now weighs just under 12 pounds.   He slept most of the morning, and then woke up after I got home from lunch, feeling very frisky, indeed.   (See above photo of him playing in leaves -burrowing, rolling and ... laughing. )  He understands 'come,' 'sit,' and waits patiently to be fed a treat and ... dinner.  Growing like crazy.  Very social.   Wrestled for almost an hour last night with an
8 wk. old, cream-colored Labradoodle until he was exhausted. The other dog was 50% bigger but, the scene was definitely cute as can be."  Submitted by owner, Dan.

"Emily"

I HAVE attached a photo of "Emily" with Father (Monsignor) George.  She’s fond of BOTH priests—and they both adore her. She is “officially” Father George’s dog—but she does spend a great deal of time with Father Dennis. Father Dennis is going through a very tough time right now—and he takes great pleasure in just sitting with her and petting her (I don’t think that she minds this TOO much!!).   Or, if he needs to go and lie down for a while, he’ll invite her to go along (again—the poor little girl is willing to make that sacrifice!!)

"Emily" survived Holy Week in grand fashion!!  She went with Father George (and Father Dennis) to visit his sister in Kenosha, for Easter.  Even Father’s toddler niece (who’s generally not allowed to play with doggies) was allowed to play with "Emily"!!  Last week, "Emily" assisted with grief counseling (a  family funeral—who loved—but didn’t currently have—a dog, came in to plan their mother’s funeral.. "Emily" sat in to 'help').  All in all—"Emily" is a wonderful dog!!

Father Dennis just stopped at my office asking about "Emily"—she’s at the groomer (he’s anxious for them to call so that we can go and pick her up!!).  Submitted by:  Maggie

"Alfalfa"

"We now call him  "Alfalfa" (Al or Alphie for short) because the hair on the top of his head always sticks up.  We have our trainer over once a week and "Al" has already learned sit and stay.
He got off to a rocky start with the cat but they are warming up to each other.   Right now, he has no problem with her and all he would like to do is play with her!  She is a little more careful around him and will not get too close.   Hopefully, next time you are in town for a show, you can come over and visit."

"Ruby"

Just wanted to let you know that "Ruby's" doing wonderfully!  We just adore her and are so happy to have her in our family.  She is a constant source of joy and entertainment for us. She is doing great with my niece and nephews and they have become great pals.   She is addicted to ice cubes so whenever she hears the ice maker, she takes off running for it.  We are trying to wean her from it now.

"Ruby" goes just about everywhere with us.  She is so easy and so much fun to travel with.  She is great on road trips, but seems to prefer trips to the bank where she is ready for her treat as soon as we start to slow down at the drive-up window.  I'm sure it's always nice to know how your dogs are doing and I know it's been  a long time since I've written.  I don't think it's possible to love a dog more than we love "Ruby".

"Kylie"

"I adopted my baby, "Kylie", 2.5 years ago.  I met you at the dog show in Fond du Lac in April of 2005, to pick her up.  She is challenging sometimes, as she thinks SHE is the boss.  Yet, in spite of her strong will and being a drama queen,  I love her with all of my heart!  She brings us such joy and laughter that I don't know what I would do without her.  I get so many compliments on her markings and how pretty she is.  I thought you might like to see some current pictures.  You will see that she doesn't like dressing up in her Halloween costume!"   (Owner:  Linda)

"Captain Jack Sparrow"

"Hi Joyce, I'll bet you're wondering about the little fellow--he is so-o-o-o cute, growing fast, and we're having so much fun.  "Jack" slept in my lap all the way home --we were bonding.  We arrived in Janesville, WI, about 11:30, checked in at our favorite puppy friendly hotel and in the morning, introduced "Jack Sparrow" to his nieces and nephews.   Since Molly stopped her pouting they have become great pals and would play or play "fight" for hours if we didn't stop them.  He was very submissive at first, but one can see that already he is less so.  We still have some work to do on the potty thing, but it's coming."

"Oh, I have to  tell you that I purchased the pen from the internet as you suggested and yesterday, left "Jack" alone while we went out.  When we arrived home both the pen and attached crate were empty...heart stopping moment...Somehow the little monkey had climbed over the pen and I found him up in my bedroom ..none the worse for wear...so much for locking him in the pen."  (Owner - Debbie Anderson)

"Frodo"

Pictured as a baby

"Just an update on the amazing puppy you've brought into our lives.  "Frodo" slept the whole way back.  Not a peep out of him.  We took him to a party we'd been invited to and he had a wonderful time meeting everyone and playing with the couple of kids who were there.  He stayed pretty close to Ken and me, keeping us in sight as he played.  We then thought we were in for a long night.  He slept in his crate next to the bed.  He whined for maybe a minute, fell  to sleep and slept until 3:30.  I took him out, he went to the bathroom, I brought him back in and he slept until 5:30!!  Amazing.  Now this may not be repeated tonight, but we rejoice in each easy night!  He just had breakfast, peed and pooped outside and is having a wonderful runaround with his new toys.  He is so much fun and what a good boy!  Thank you for this addition to our family.  We are totally in love with him.  It was wonderful seeing you and all your fabulous dogs.  I'll keep in touch."  (Owners- Laura and Ken)

"Simey"

"Hello Joyce, remember us?  Back in 2001, we got "Simey" from you.  He has been such a wonderful pet!  He's a clingy, sweet lick monster.  He has his moments when we call him "Slimey Simey".  He has been great with our two girls.  They are now 13 and 9 yrs old.   After some serious searching, we adopted a rescue from Alaska.  "Happy" was listed on the ECSCA's website.  He has been such a super dog!  Again, he and "Simon" are the best of buds.  This past summer, we adopted three kittens, littermates.  "Simon" has taken it all in stride.  He has always been gentle with the children.  Probably because you had such a hand in his survival as a pup, he has always considered himself my dog.  Very clingy to mom, and the photo of me with "Simon" is obviously not me at my best (one of the kids took it) but, it shows what I mean about being clingy.  He's happiest on my lap or at the least my feet."  Owner -Cindy
